Pioneers in Remote Therapeutic Monitoring (RTM) Software for Physical Therapists

For Physical Therapy Practices

Add a real revenue line to your PT practice without seeing more patients.

Remote Therapeutic Monitoring pays you for the patient communication your therapists are already doing between visits, for free. MovementRx is the platform that captures it, bills it correctly, and handles the monitoring for you if you need that too.

From the Founder

"I've been a practicing PT for over a decade. I've watched colleagues close practices, sell to private equity, or burn out trying to do more with less. The margin problem in physical therapy is real, it's structural, and working harder doesn't fix it. RTM does, not because it's a clever workaround, but because CMS created a legitimate reimbursement pathway for work clinicians were already doing. We built MovementRx to make that pathway as simple to implement as possible. By a PT. Not a software company."

If you've had any of these thoughts in the last six months, keep reading.

Independent PT practice owners across the country are dealing with the same structural margin squeeze. Here's what we hear from practice owners every week, almost word for word.

"I'm working more hours than I did as an employee and making less."

This isn't a personal failure. It's a structural problem. Insurance reimbursements are down 15 to 20% from five years ago. Staff wages are up 20 to 30%. You're being squeezed from both sides and there's no version of "seeing more patients" that closes that gap.

"I can't compete with what hospital systems are paying my therapists."

You're competing dollar-for-dollar with organizations that have billion-dollar balance sheets. The only real fix is a margin advantage, a revenue stream they don't have access to at your scale. RTM is that stream.

"I've tried other revenue add-ons and they haven't moved the needle."

Dry needling, laser, cash-based conversions, these can work at the margins but they don't solve the core problem. They require upfront capital, patient buy-in, or staff time you don't have. RTM requires none of those. It's a billing code, not a product.

"I'm not sure how much longer I can keep doing this the way it's set up."

That's not weakness. That's an accurate assessment of a broken margin structure. You're not bad at running a practice. You're running a practice model that was designed for a reimbursement environment that no longer exists. There's a real fix.

Here's what Remote Therapeutic Monitoring actually is.

Remote Therapeutic Monitoring is a set of CPT codes established by CMS to reimburse physical therapy providers for monitoring patients between visits, tracking home exercise program adherence, logging pain and progress, and communicating with patients about their care.

The key phrase is between visits. RTM pays you for clinical activity that's happening outside the clinic, activity your therapists may already be doing informally, for free.

A typical RTM patient generates around $100-$150 per month in reimbursement on top of normal visit billing. For a practice with even 30 active RTM patients, that adds up to $3,000-$4,500 in new monthly revenue, billed alongside your existing claims, with no new visit slots, no new hires, and no new equipment.

RTM is not a product you buy. It's a reimbursement pathway you activate. And unlike most "revenue ideas" that get pitched to PT practice owners, this one has two huge things going for it. First, the math is clean, these are CMS-established CPT codes that reimburse alongside your normal claims. Second, the clinical data is real. Patients who get monitored between visits actually do better, complete more of their home exercises, and have better functional outcomes. You're not adding RTM to make money at the expense of patient care. You're adding it because it improves both at the same time.

Two reasons PT practices adopt MovementRx.

Most RTM vendors pitch one benefit. We deliver both because in real clinical practice, financial health and patient outcomes aren't separate problems. They're the same problem.

Benefit 01 - Financial

A new reimbursement stream, without new patients.

277% Increase in profit per case measured under real payer conditions

Here's what 277% means in practice: before RTM, a standard outpatient orthopedic case carried a known profit margin. After implementing Remote Therapeutic Monitoring across 2,223 tracked patients, profit per case increased 277 percent, not from higher visit fees, but from RTM reimbursement billed alongside existing claims under real payer mix including Medicare, United Healthcare, and Blue Cross Blue Shield. Internal financial analysis, 2025.

Benefit 02 - Clinical

40% higher home exercise adherence.

40% Higher HEP adherence rate RTM patients vs. non-RTM patients

Home exercise program adherence is the single biggest predictor of patient outcomes and the most consistent failure point in outpatient PT. Patients enrolled in MovementRx demonstrated a 40 percent higher adherence rate compared with patients receiving standard outpatient PT in the same clinical setting. Better adherence drives better functional outcomes. Retrospective ANCOVA analysis, n = 2,230 patients, 2023 data.

Four steps. No new staff. No new equipment.

RTM is designed to fit into your existing workflow, not replace it. Here's exactly how much of your team's time each step requires.

01

Enroll the patient

The therapist enrolls the patient in MovementRx and walks them through their home exercise program on their phone. ~5 minutes at the end of first visit. This is the only step that requires therapist time at setup.

02

Patient logs activity

The patient uses the app between visits to complete exercises, log symptoms, and message the clinic. The platform tracks time, communications, and compliance thresholds automatically. Zero therapist time required.

03

Your team monitors, or ours does

This is the step most practice owners worry about. The honest answer: with Full-Service, you don't have to think about it. Our licensed virtual PTA/COTA team handles every patient touchpoint. Your staff sees a monthly summary.
0 hours/month on Full-Service. ~2-3 hours/month for a 30-patient panel on Software-Only.

04

Bill the CPT codes

At month-end, MovementRx generates a billing report with correct CPT codes, time logs, and patient documentation already attached. Your biller submits the claims like any other service. ~30 minutes/month for your biller. First reimbursements typically arrive in Month 2.

We've put together a free video series for PT practice owners, not to sell you anything, but because we spent years looking for this information and couldn't find it explained honestly. The series covers why PT margins are declining and why it's structural, how RTM works inside a real practice, and the honest tradeoffs between DIY and full-service monitoring. Start with Video 1. It's about 12 minutes. You'll know by the end whether any of this applies to your situation.
